Is it hot enough for you?

Dad jokes aside, the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»weather forecast calls for unprecedented June humidity in the days to come as well as scorching daily highs that give vacation destinations south of the border a run for their money.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»that calls for a long stretch of sizzling temperatures through the weekend into next week.

The national weather forecaster notes that the "dangerous long-duration heat wave" will see daily highs ranging between 29°C and 38°C combined with lows ranging between 18°C to 21°C.

With humidity, however, these temperatures will feel more like the "high 30s to possibly the low 40s."

An exceptionally strong ridge of high pressure is expected to develop over British Columbia that will result in sizzling temperatures. Environment Canada notes that the length of heat wave is "concerning as there is little relief at night with elevated overnight temperatures. "

The heat wave is expected to last until Wednesday, June 30.

Locals are advised to drink plenty of water even before they feel thirsty and stay in cool places. This record-breaking heat event will increase the potential for heat-related illnesses.

Additionally, you should check on older family, friends and neighbours. Make sure they are cool and drinking water.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Watch for the symptoms of heat illness: dizziness/fainting; nausea/vomiting; rapid breathing and heartbeat; extreme thirst; decreased urination with unusually dark urine.

Outdoor workers should take regularly scheduled breaks in a cool place.
