The Granville Bridge's north end that leads onto Granville Street is reopening, but some restrictions are going to be in place.

The section of the bridge that leads onto Granville Street has been closed for months as the Granville Connector Project removes the loops at the end of the bridge and realigns traffic. The bridge was still usable over the past months as vehicles entered and exited the city's core via Seymour and Howe streets.

Now, the northern section, which was demolished, has been rebuilt, and on Monday, Sept. 16, Granville Street will be reconnected and open to vehicles, but not for everyone

"To help provide faster and more reliable bus service into downtown, only transit vehicles, taxis, cyclists and local traffic will be able to travel northbound through the intersection of Granville Street at Drake Street – all other vehicles will be required to turn onto Drake Street," reads the City of 鶹ýӳwebsite.

People driving into the city's downtown are encouraged to continue to use Seymour.

"The blocks of Granville Street between Drake Street and Smithe Street will continue to be accessed by all vehicles from east-west streets," reads the site.

Those leaving the city will have a more straightforward route.

"All vehicles will be able to travel southbound through the intersection of Granville Street and Drake Street onto the bridge," reads the site.

While the section of bridge is reopening, construction as part of the project will continue.

"In addition to continued work on the north end’s new local road network, construction work will now start on the west side of the bridge. Upgrades will provide safe, accessible pedestrian crossings, more space and safety for those walking, cycling and rolling across the bridge," reads the site.

That will include traffic signals, traffic islands, and new paint markings to guide drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

Howe Ramp closed

As part of the new phase, the Howe Street on-ramp onto the Granville Bridge will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. for eight weeks.
