'We'll miss you': Global retailer vacating recognizable Kitsilano location

The building has been around more than 110 years with some unique aesthetic ugrades

Urban Outfitters is leaving Kitsilano.

After more than a decade at the corner of West 4th Avenue and Yew Street the store is closing, according to posters on its doors.

"We'll miss you," announces the poster, before inviting customers to its Granville Strip location.

The store's last day at 2199 W 4th Ave. is Tuesday, Jan. 23.

The location is arguably the most iconic storefront in Kitsilano; the original structure was built in 1912 for the Canadian Bank of Commerce when streetcars first came to the area.

Before becoming Urban Outfitters it was a Le Chateau. In 2001, a was made on the east side of the building, adding a modern-looking glass section to one of the oldest buildings in the neighbourhood.

Urban Outfitters has hundreds of stores across the U.S., Canada, Europe, India, and the Middle East. It also owns Anthropologie.
