If there's one thing I think we can all agree on right now it's that COVID-19 is NOT awesome.
For over a decade, we've been bringing you a healthy mix of awesome stories about what to do and where to go in Vancouver. Things like new restaurants to check out, fun events, travel tips, great local people doing incredible things. We've also been covering and sharing hard news for the past two-and-a-half years.
There hasn't been news much harder than the ongoing stream of reporting we're doing and sharing about the COVID-19 crisis here in Metro Vancouver, as well as nation-wide. Believe me, we're feeling it too in the "newsrooms" each of us at V.I.A. have crafted out of our living rooms or basements as we all work remotely.
But there is still Awesome in Vancouver.
Our collective spirits here at V.I.A. are buoyed daily by things like the incredible work of B.C. sign language interpreter Nigel Howard, or the creative ways Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»food businesses are staying afloat and helping others out. And even though there are no Canucks games to cover, our Pass it to Bulis team is finding interesting stories to keep fans engaged during this unplanned off-time - like how announcer Al Murdoch is using TikTok to connect with those missing the action on the ice.
We are practicing social distance, but we also want to keep connected with the very best of what's happening in the city. That's where you come in.
Let us know what awesome things you're seeing happen in your community. It can be something you snap a photo of while out walking your block to soak up that spring sunshine (and within a safe distance of fellow walkers!). It can be something your business, or a business you frequent, is doing to help out. Tell us about kind acts, people going above and beyond, things that are connecting us in unprecendented ways. Which neighbourhoods are having nightly dance-offs on their balconies? Have you launched a "Quarantine Kitchen" Instagram cooking series? Is your book club or wine club meeting virtually?
We want to shout out what's going on that's awesome, and we need your help, because we're also keeping close to home these days.
You can email your stories to me at [email protected]. Make sure to give us details on how we can reach you if we have questions, including your name, and any photos that we can use that go with your awesome story.
COVID-19 is not awesome, but we're going to get through this together. And together we are awesome.
Thanks, Vancouver!
