The streets of Vancouver’s historic Gastown neighbourhood will be bustling with holiday cheer and lights, as their annual  returns with plenty of festive fun.

Taking place over four weekend nights – Dec. 12-13 and 19-20 – there will be lots of merriment for visitors and locals alike as they stroll the streets, shop, and get into the spirit of the season.

Shoppers will love the extended shopping hours at several area retailers, making checking folks off the list for gifts a lot easier. Some stores will also be offering special pricing and giveaways, so you can benefit from supporting Gastown’s retailers, too.

In addition to twinkling lights hung throughout Gastown, you can enjoy a unique temporary art installation that will light up the night in a different way. Look for the special “Projection Mapping Video Art Installation” on The Leckie Building (located across from the famous Steam Clock). This Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Film School production will take you on a trip down memory lane with moving graphics, 3D animation, special projection techniques, and surround audio. The huge 120ft x 60ft video wall of the Leckie Building in Gastown will come to life with a two minute video playing every 30 minutes upon the chime of the Steam Clock.

Be sure to also keep you eye out for mistletoe around Gastown, whether you’re kissing your sweetie or searching scavenger hunt-style.

You’ll also want to listen up for the sweet sounds of “Carolling for a Cause.” Gastown will welcome local choirs from 6 to 7 p.m. on each of the Not-So-Silent Nights on Cambie Street, north of Water Street by the Steam Clock. Each talented group will be raising money for a special cause. Here’s the schedule and who they’re singing for:

  • Dec. 12: Mom’s Choir (Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Children’s Hospital)
  • Dec. 13: Los Parranderos (The Dug Out)
  • Dec. 19: Notre Dame – Platinum Girls & Iron Men (Wholeway House)
  • Dec. 20:  Sweet Scarlet (Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre)

When: Evenings of Dec. 12-13 and 19-20, 2019
