BC Ferries is offering emergency first responders free vehicle and passenger travel to attend Burnaby RCMP Const. Shaelyn Yang’s regimental funeral service Nov. 2.
The free travel offer is available on Nov. 1, 2 and 3 on all BC Ferries routes. Police officers and emergency first responders will be asked to identify themselves to ticket agents by uniform or official ID.
Yang, 31, died Oct. 18 after being stabbed while she was with a municipal parks worker responding to a call about a tent in a park in Burnaby.
“We want to show our support and appreciation for all officers and first responders in B.C. who work incredibly hard to keep our communities safe,” said Corrine Storey, BC Ferries’ vice-president and chief operating officer.
“We work closely with all police services in B.C. through our terminals and vessels. This is a small gesture to show we are thankful for their service.”
