One of the major streets connecting Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»to the University of British Columbia (UBC) campus will be closed for nearly two full days for a film production, the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has advised.
West 16th Avenue between Blanca Street and Wesbrook Mall will close to all vehicular traffic from Sunday, Sept. 15 at 5 a.m. until Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 1 a.m.
Drivers can detour via University Boulevard and Chancellor Boulevard during the closures; the routes will be marked with signs.
In addition to vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians will not be allowed on West 16th Avenue between Blanca Street and Wesbrook Mall on Monday afternoon. Trails in Pacific Spirit Park or University Boulevard are the suggested detours for cyclists and pedestrians.
Anyone travelling to and from the UBC campus during the closure should plan for additional travel time.
The Ministry added that West 16th will be open to all traffic ahead of rush hour on Tuesday morning.
TransLink has issued alerts for the two bus routes affected by the closure:
- 25 UBC detour on Sunday, Sept. 15 from the first bus until 1 a.m. Regular route to 16 Ave & Blanca then via Blanca, University Blvd, Wesbrook Mall resume regular route due to roadblock.
- 25 Brentwood Station detour on Sunday, Sept. 15 from the first bus until 1 a.m Regular route to Wesbrook Mall & University Blvd then via University Blvd, Blanca, 16 Ave resume regular route due to roadblock.
- 33 UBC detour on Sunday, Sept. 15 from the first bus until 1 a.m. Regular route to 16 Ave & Blanca then via Blanca, University Blvd, Wesbrook Mall resume regular route due to roadblock.
- 33 29th Avenue Station detour on Sunday, Sept. 15 from the first bus until 1 a.m. Regular route to Wesbrook Mall & University Blvd then via University Blvd, Blanca, 16 Ave resume regular route due to roadblock.
The Ministry did not provide any details about the film production that will be closing down West 16th Avenue.
There are several in and around Vancouver, including returning hits like Yellowjackets or new shows such as The Hunting Party.
One of the biggest shows to film in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»this year has been The Last of Us, which uses the code name "Mega Sword." Though production had initially wrapped last month, the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Sun reports that the this weekend to Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»for more filming, though none of the locations appear to be West 16th Avenue near UBC.
