Family members of a man who died after jumping into a foam pit at Richmond’s Extreme Air Park are suing the facility’s operators, claiming staff at the trampoline park failed to supervise and ensure the man’s safety.

Tanya Hayes and her children Ella, Jack and Sophie Hayes filed a notice of civil claim in BC Supreme Court on June 20 as claimants arising from the death of Jason Greenwood. The lawsuit names Extreme Air Park Inc., Extreme Air Park 2 Ltd., Extreme Air Park 3 Ltd., Extreme Air Park 4 Ltd., John Doe and 14380 Triangle Road Investments Ltd. as defendants.

According to the claim, Jason Greenwood attended the park on January 20, 2018, and jumped into a foam pit “in a summersault [sic] like motion.”

“Tragically, Mr. Greenwood died,” the claim states.

Days after Greenwood’s death, the Richmond News reported that he had broken his neck after jumping from a trampoline into one of the park’s foam pits.

The Hayes family claims park staff failed to supervise Greenwood and provide “any or any adequate instruction with regard to safety in the pursuit of gymnastic activity.” In addition, the defendants allegedly failed to warn Greenwood of the dangers of diving head first into the foam pit, while “failing to ensure there was a sufficient amount of foam in the foam pit.”

The family seeks unspecified damages for negligence under the Family Compensation Act.
