Are you ready for summer?

Environment Canada has provided an early summer weather forecast for Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»that calls for warmer temperatures overall.

Meteorological summer commences on June 1, which is when the federal forecaster will release the official 2021 seasonal weather forecast for B.C. However, some models give an early indication that the region will see warmer weather this year.

Meteorologist Doug Lundquist told Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» that he feels most of B.C. will see above-average temperatures for June, July and August.

And while precipitation is difficult to predict over a week out, Lundquist raises some concerns for parts of the province. The interior has seen record-breaking dryness which is starting to be a concern for wildfires. Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»has very little precipitation in the upcoming forecast, too.

"For the next week to week-and-a-half, there's not a lot forecast. There'll be some showers and maybe some thunderstorms but not the big rain that we really need for this time of year," he said.

And just how much hotter can we expect this summer to be?

Lundquist states that the province will likely see "warmer than average" temperatures but he can't give an exact number.

The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»forecast calls for several days of straight sunshine this week and temperatures soaring up to 22°C inland heading into the long weekend.
