The BC SPCA is investigating after a dog reportedly died after falling from an apartment balcony in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»over the weekend.
On Jan. 5, a three-year-old Australian Shepherd allegedly fell 21 storeys from a balcony located at 918 Cooperage Way in Yaletown. City of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Animal Control Officers were called after the incident, but the dog did not survive the fall.
"Unfortunately, the animal did not survive the fall," explained Kathryn Holm, the City’s Chief Licence Inspector, in an email to Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³».
"The SPCA has taken the deceased dog and is leading the investigation."
Holms added that the incident is not a common occurrence, however.
"We are not aware of any similar incidents," she wrote.
The BC SPCA notes that if cats or dogs are allowed out on high-rise balconies, guardians should ensure that the area is enclosed so that they cannot fall through the bars or above the railing of the balcony.
Since the investigation is still ongoing, the BC SPCA are unable to provide any additional details.
