Const. Brandon Blue has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and constables Beau Spencer and Gregory Jackson were charged with assault.
The charges stem from an incident dating back to May 24, 2017 at or near the Commercial-Broadway SkyTrain station where a man suffered serious harm following an interaction with police.
Details of the injuries were never released.
An investigation conducted by the Independent Investigations Office said officers attempted to stop a man just after 10 p.m. for riding a bike with no helmet, lights or suitable reflectors.
Police told investigators that the man fled and was subsequently arrested.
The IIO provided no further detail in February 2019 that it had forwarded a report to Crown for consideration of charges. Information from the B.C. Prosecution Service and the IIO wasn’t clear whether the man was arrested at or near the SkyTrain station.
Glacier Media had not heard back from the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»police’s communications department before this story was posted to determine the status of the officers, and whether they were still working on patrol, reassigned or suspended.
The trio’s first appearance in court is scheduled for Oct. 15.
The B.C. Prosecution Service said in a news release Friday that the charge assessment process in this case was significantly delayed “due to the complexity of the issues, the volume of initial disclosure, BCPS requests for further information, and subsequent receipt of additional disclosure.”
