Coquitlam RCMP got a tip about a car. They found it fully loaded

“We would like to thank the public who promptly reported this suspicious vehicle,” Coquitlam RCMP stated in a news release today, Aug. 16, 2024.

Coquitlam RCMP found a suspicious vehicle in an apartment building parkade this month filled with drugs, weapons and stolen goods.

Police got a tip on Tuesday, Aug. 6 about the vehicle parked underground around North Road and Smith Street in the Burquitlam neighbourhood, close to the Burnaby border.

It had been reported stolen from a neighbouring jurisdiction, said Mounties spokesperson Cpl. Alexa Hodgins in a news release issued today, Aug. 16.

The vehicle was towed to a secure location for a police investigation.

And on Monday, Aug. 12, officers executed a search warrant on the vehicle that Mounties say contained:

  • 1.5 kg of fentanyl
  • 400 grams of psilocybin
  • methamphetamine
  • heroin
  • a bicycle
  • a scooter
  • tools
  • sports cards
  • high-end purses
  • identifications in various names
  • bear spray
  • a BB gun with ammunition

“We would like to thank the public who promptly reported this suspicious vehicle,” Hodgins stated in the release.

“It’s important for us to hear from the community about their neighbourhood concerns. In this incident, we received the report as it was occurring, which allowed our officers to quickly locate and secure the vehicle.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2024-20503.
