Coastal flood warning in Metro Vancouver

Environment Canada is expecting flooding in low areas across Metro Vancouver.

Canada's weather agency has issued a flood and rainfall warning for low-lying areas across Metro Vancouver.

Coastal flooding and potential damage to nearby infrastructure is expected on Tuesday morning, according to Environment Canada. 

Two winter storms is also expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the south coast, bringing 60 to 120 mm of rain by Wednesday morning.

The rainfall warning is in effect for: 

  • Metro Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­- North Shore including West Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­and North Vancouver
  • Metro Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­- northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge

Flooding warning 

Photos posted to social media saw many areas with floods or higher water levels than normal in cities.

While the flood warning is for Tuesday morning, water levels at Richmond's West Dyke looked higher on Monday already, according to Coun. Bill McNulty's Twitter post.

Giant puddles have also been spotted around Richmond including at Alderbridge Way and May Drive.

The flood warning is in effect for:

  • Metro Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­- central including the City of Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­Burnaby and New Westminster
  • Metro Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­- North Shore including West Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­and North Vancouver
  • Metro Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­- southeast including Surrey and Langley
  • Metro Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­- southwest including Richmond and Delta
