The incident happened on June 22, 2023; that morning, around 5 a.m. police reported a serious collision at the intersection of West Georgia and Burrard streets.

"The driver of a Plymouth Voyager minivan struck a Honda Accord that was stopped for a light at West Georgia and Burrard Street. A passenger in the Honda died at the scene, and two others in the vehicle were hospitalized," reads a police press release.

At the time of the incident, police stated the passenger, a 28-year-old man, died at the scene. At the same time, the van caught fire and the driver had to be extracted from it. He was also taken to the hospital.

On Aug. 13, 2024, six charges were approved by the BC Prosecution in the case.

Trakalo was arrested by the VPD in Chilliwack earlier this month. He's since been released.
