Police have determined that there is no safety threat at Caulfeild Village Shopping Centre in West Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»after a tip was received earlier Thursday afternoon (June 17) about a possible explosive device inside the Safeway grocery store.
"There is no threat to public safety," said Const. Kevin Goodmurphy, spokesman for the West Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department, after three bomb-sniffing dogs – including one from the RCMP and two from the transit police – checked the store on Thursday afternoon. “All three dogs cleared the store and did not locate anything suspicious,” said Goodmurphy.
Police got a call around noon from staff at the grocery store, saying they had information that there may be a bomb inside the store. Goodmurphy later said he understood that information about the potential “bomb threat” came from a conversation between customers inside the store that was overhead by staff.
West Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»police officers blocked off the immediate area and evacuated everyone from the Safeway.
Those measures are now over. The grocery store has been reopened and police have cleared the scene.
