A new study finds that Canada's education system ranks among the best in the world.
Compiled by Ceoworld Magazine, an international business magazine, the ranking is based on three equally weighted categories: a well-developed public education system; top-quality education; and whether respondents would consider attending university in that nation. In addition, researchers looked at 16 indicators that fell into either a quality or an opportunity index.
The survey data and information was collected directly from 196,300 individuals in 84 countries.
Ceoworld notes, however, that the, "rankings should not be viewed as the most important aspect when choosing a country for higher education, and are merely one element to consider."
The United Kingdom claimed the top spot on the list, with the United States coming second. In third was Australia, followed by the Netherlands in fourth. Sweden took the number five spot, while Denmark placed seventh.
Canada took the eighth spot, Germany came in ninth, and Switzerland rounded out the top ten.
While the study doesn't explain why Canada came eighth , it gives a brief explanation of why our neighbours to the south came second: "Half of the top 50 universities in the world are situated in the US. Columbia University, Johns Hopkins University, Michigan State University, Northeastern University, and Washington State University are the top universities in the US. All of them provide a wide range of courses."
Here are the world's top ten countries for their education systems in 2020:
- United Kingdom

- Netherlands
- Sweden
