There are now 2,659 cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in B.C. after health officials announced 30 new cases Monday.

From Friday to Saturday there were 14 cases, from Saturday to Sunday there were six, and from Sunday to Monday there were nine; there was also one new epidemiologically linked case.

Provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry reports that there are 907 cases in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Coastal Health (VCH), 1,362 in Fraser Health, 130 on Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Island, 195 in Interior Health and 64 in Northern Health.

"You will notice that the numbers are slightly off if you count the numbers from Friday to today," said Henry. "And that was due to a data correction where reconciliation of the numbers meant a decrease in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Coastal Health."

There have been no new outbreaks in long-term care facilities and an outbreak has been declared over at the New Vista Society. In total, four long-term care or assisted-living facilities have active outbreaks.

While there are still a number of active community outbreaks, Henry says that the outbreaks at Fraser Valley Specialty Poultry and Superior Poultry have now been declared over.

There have been no new deaths.

There are currently 16 people in acute care in hospital and four are in intensive care.

There are 183 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 2,309 people who tested positive have recovered.

“As the recent B.C. COVID-19 modelling has shown us, we can safely reopen many businesses, return to in-class learning and gradually increase our social interactions, but we have to be cautious that we don’t go too far and risk a resurgence in cases," Henry said Friday.

“The key is to minimize, manage and modify: minimize the number of new cases and close contacts, manage clusters and outbreaks with rapid contact tracing by public health teams and modify the measures we are all following, as needed."

“This means you should continue to assess your risks with every step and take precautions to protect yourself and those around you. Without exception, always stay home when ill and follow the rules for safe physical distancing. Remember that the provincial health officer’s order limiting gatherings to no more than 50 people remains in place.â€

“We have learned a lot about COVID-19. Most importantly, we have learned that we must all stay vigilant, that a slow and thoughtful approach will protect us and keep us safe, and that by working together and doing our part, we will get through this.†
