There are now 1,824 cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in B.C., after health officials announced 29 new cases Thursday.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reports that there are 755 cases in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Coastal Health (VCH), 760 in Fraser Health, 111 on Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Island, 156 in Interior Health and 42 in Northern Health.

There is one new outbreak in long-term care facility in the Fraser Health region. Currently, there are a number active outbreaks in facilities and two new acute care unit outbreaks in the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Coastal Health and Fraser Health regions. There are 347 individual cases: 217 residents and 130 staff.

"We have, on the positive side, 10 long-term care facility outbreaks now that had been declared over the past number of weeks are now declared over," stated Henry.

A new outbreak has been identified at the Superior Poultry Plant in Coquitlam. Two individual cases have been identified. This outbreak is related to the United Poultry Company outbreak identified earlier this week. An investigation is on-going by Fraser Health.

The outbreak at the Mission federal correctional institute in the Fraser Valley continues to grow. Now, there are 78 cases that are positive for COVID-19.

There have been an additional four deaths, for a total of 94 fatalities in the province.

There are currently 130 people in acute care in hospital and 44 are in critical care.

1092 people have fully recovered and are no longer in isolation.

Henry notes that the provine continues to see new community outbreaks, which means that more work must be done to break the chains of transmission. While she acknowledges that people miss their family and friends, she underscores that there cannot be any weaknesses in the firewall.

Earlier this week, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Coastal Health (VCH) Public Health has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 among staff working at United Poultry Company Ltd., a chicken processing plant located at 534 East Cordova Street. To date, 29 employees of the facility have tested positive for COVID-19. All employees at the facility are being managed as either COVID-19 cases or close contacts and have been told to self-isolate.
