I was thrilled to get together with the truly lovely Jasmin Parkin, keyboard player and singer in . Despite having photographed her band several times over the past few years we had never officially met, so it was great to finally sit down and chat. Jasmin threw on some vinyl that I hadn’t heard in years, one of them being the Everly Brothers Greatest Hits. I totally loved it. We talked about the timelessness of the songs and laughed at the line in ‘Wake up little Susie’.
Jasmin says she isn’t really a guitar player, but she did pluck out one of the four songs she said that she could play that her dad taught her (I think she knows more than 4). Incidentally, the guitar seen in the photo is a gift from her dad who according to Jasmin, likes to buy guitars and then eventually give them away. That particular guitar was signed by all of his friends at a party before it was given to her.
In case you were wondering why the photo is taken from another room, her security detail wouldn’t actually let me be in the same room as her :) No that isn’t true, she actually could not be a sweeter person and we had a great visit. Incidentally, Jasmin has since relocated to Squamish where she has opened a yoga studio called North Yoga. Thanks to her for having me over and to our mutual friend for introducing us. Mother Mother's next show is July 14th at the Calgary Stampede.
