I have had the pleasure of knowing Tariq Hussain for a few years now. He is an accomplished songwriter and recording artist; in the late nineties, his album “The Basement Songs” earned him a JUNO nomination and a Top 20 hit. Over the last few years Tariq has been playing with as he continues to not only write songs but also teach creative writing and lyric form courses at The University of British Columbia. He is currently working on a collection of short stories and a memoir about the challenges of growing up as a first generation Canadian kid with a penchant for pop music. I was thrilled when he played me a couple of new songs and I tell you – the first one has hit written all over it. He recently received a grant to start recording a new album so stay tuned for more news that front. Thanks to him for a great evening visit and for being today’s #ArtistAtHome.
