A woman in her 40s has been arrested following a dramatic hit-and-run incident caught on video.
The incident happened Oct. 6 around 2 p.m. at the intersection of East 43 Ave and Beatrice Str in East Vancouver, according to the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department.
"Preliminary evidence indicates that one person was struck by a vehicle as they were crossing the street. The driver initially drove off," states Const. Tania Visintin in an email to Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³». "The victim was taken to hospital for treatment."
A camera mounted to a house near the intersection caught the incident in the intersection. It shows a man and a woman crossing Beatrice St. As they cross, an SUV stopped on East 43 Ave accelerates and turns left.
As it turns, the vehicle hits the woman, the closer of the pair to the SUV. She's tossed to the ground hard.
The man who was crossing the road with the victim and other witnesses rush to the woman's aid as she lies on the ground. The driver gets out of the vehicle as well and checks on the woman. An argument follows, between the driver and the others about the incident.
The driver eventually gets back in the vehicle and backs up, pursued by the man as witnesses take photos or video of the SUV. The man tries to block the vehicle from leaving, but the SUV moves forward and around him, nearly knocking him over.

The driver was subsequently located and has been arrested.
"A witness was able to capture the license plate of the suspect’s vehicle, allowing police to track that person down and arrest them for failure to stop at the scene of an accident," states Visintin.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
