You can deliver a cactus to your ex this Valentine's Day as a thorny memento. 

The plant will likely last longer than any relationship they will have... unless they kill it.

There’s one catch, you must tell them why you want to send your ex a cactus. After that, you have to fill out their questionnaire and answer a skill-testing question, and your ex will get the plant just in time for Valentine’s Day. 

Inexpensive ways to celebrate love

You don't have to break the bank for those not jaded by the day and want to celebrate on Feb. 14. 

According to an Ipsos report, 58 per cent of Canadians surveyed believe the day is too much of a commercial event. 

More than half of Canadians (54 per cent) will have a romantic dinner at home, and only four per cent of people will go on a romantic getaway. The report also found that 30 per cent of Canadians will buy or give chocolates and candy. 

Aaron Guillen, media specialist for BBB in B.C.’s mainland, says even the most hopeless romantics can feel the pressure of the special day. 

“This year, let Valentine's Day be more about effort and less about dollars spent,” says Guillen. 

Better Business Bureau (BBB) suggests five ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your love bug amid inflation and rising costs of going out. 

  1. Create a low-cost floral display instead of an expensive florist
  2. Make a special dinner for your loved one
  3. Do a new activity outdoors
  4. Make a photo album or scrapbook of your favourite memories
  5. Make a playlist or do something musical together
