The Giant Dipper
The Giant Dipper roller coaster began operating at Vancouver’s Hastings Park in 1925. It cost $65,000, was almost a kilometre long and its cars reached speeds of over 60 kilometres an hour (almost 40 mph). The longest sheer drop was 18 metres (60 feet). It was torn down on March 6, 1948, to make room for an extension of the racetrack.
