Point Atkinson Lighthouse
Point Atkinson Lighthouse “flashed into being,” replacing an older version installed by the Dominion government in 1875. The lighthouse horn, which sounded every 53 seconds in foggy weather, came to be known as 'Old Wahoo' by the locals. Lighthouse Park was originally set aside as a timber preserve to provide fuel for the lighthouse and its steam fog alarm. As a result, the park has never been logged and retains many of its original native trees and plants.
