Photos: Richmond Square brought back to life in colour

Photos of stores in the mall (now Richmond Centre) from 1971 have been colourized

Do you remember going to Richmond Centre shortly after it opened in the late 1960s?

If you do, then you’ll recall that it was first named “Richmond Square” and featured a whole host of Canadian brand names, such as Simpson Sears and Zellers.

Thanks to Rob Johal, with the help of the City of Richmond Archives department, those memories have been brought back to life in colour.

Johal posted a bunch of photos from 1971 that he colourized, featuring the likes of Field’s, McCallum Hardware, Drugcraft Pharmacy, Eve’s Style Shop, Hobbies, Lord’s, Pemberton Jewellers, Brighouse Color TVs, Maple, Singer’s, Stedman’s, The Country Squire and Woop’s.

Johal, who posted them on community Facebook page “You Grew Up in Richmond, BC if you remember,” told the Richmond News that he has “lots of fun childhood memories of going to the mall.”
