Expo 86 was a game changer. It remains one of the largest public events ever held in British Columbia, and it was a catalyst for major projects in real estate, infrastructure, and architecture. The fair attracted over 22 million visitors and gave Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»international stature. The provincial town became a bold city with boundless potential.
Expo 86 had an impact on everyone who took part in it. Vancouverites remember what they did there and who was with them. Many residents held onto their memories by collecting souvenirs, including maps, pins, and T-shirts.
With Recollecting Expo86, the Museum of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»(one of our community sponsors) marks the 30th anniversary of the opening of the 1986 World Exposition on Transportation and Communication. It also spotlights the important role of collectors as memory keepers. This display presents a fraction of Pete Visscher’s impressive collection of Expo 86 memorabilia.
To celebrate the opening day of Expo '86, the Museum of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»is turning back the clock for a day of special 1986 pricing: Admission on this day will be just $4.00 for everyone!
Date: Monday, May 2 at 11:00am
Note that the special $4.00 pricing will be available for this day only, at the MOV admissions desk.
Also, everyone is invited you to share their memories and images of Expo 86 on Twitter and Instagram, using the hashtag #RecollectingExpo86
