In 1960 you could buy a complete steak dinner for only $1.19, and the restaurant that served it was once Michael J Fox’s favourite.
It was served at the very first Mr. Mike’s location when it opened on Granville St in Vancouver, and by 1975 they had grown the company so much that they celebrated their 50th restaurant opening.
By the time they reached 50 locations they were selling 25,000 steaks per week, and the funny thing is that a dude named Bob started it - there was nobody named Mike involved.
In the interview we published with Michael J Fox way back in 2010 we asked him what his favourite restaurants were growing up here, and we were surprised to learn that Mr. Mike’s and The Old Spaghetti Factory were the names that came out of his mouth.
But while Mr. Mike’s heyday has come and gone you might be surprised to learn that they still have 45 locations open in Western Canada.
Their dinners are priced at slightly more than $1.19, in case you were wondering.
