Mayor Louis Taylor as catcher was in campaigning mode for this appearance with Babe Ruth, the Yankee slugger. Nine days later he would face re-election for the first two-year term in the city’s history. (Until then mayors were elected annually.) Whether or not Ruth’s visit had anything to do with it, Taylor successfully held onto office for his sixth term.
