A local brutalist landmark, the MacMillan Bloedel, or MacBlo, building at Thurlow and Georgia was designed by Arthur Erickson. It opened in 1968, during the period when the brutalist style of architecture鈥攚hich the Canadian Oxford Dictionary calls a 鈥渉eavy plain style鈥濃�攚as flourishing.
