First passenger train

The first CPR passenger train arrived in Port Moody from Montreal across the newly completed transcontinental line on July 4, 1886. Port Moody was supposed to be the Pacific terminus for the railway, but history had already passed the tiny community by.

Just a few months earlier, CPR general manager W.C. Van Horne had completed a secret deal with the provincial government to move the terminus down the inlet to Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»in return for a sizable grant of free land at the site.
