Fraser Valley Public Library Demonstration
The Fraser Valley Public Library Demonstration began, with Dr. Helen Gordon Stewart as director. The Carnegie Corporation of New York donated $100,000 to establish a rural library and a bookmobile for five years. Aer the funds were exhausted in 1934, Valley residents, despite the Depression, voted to pay a new tax to continue the service—and the first regional library in North America was born.
