What happened to Canuck the Crow, one of B.C.’s most famous birds?
If you’re not familiar, he was a super lovable Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»corvid who got a ton of notoriety starting in 2016.
A photo of him stealing a knife from a crime scene went viral, he'd often ride the SkyTrain, and he was once beaten by someone so badly he nearly died but was nursed back to life.
He even had a made about his life with a man who befriended him and was recognized as the unofficial ambassador of our city.
Then in the summer of 2019, he simply disappeared.
Worried fans were so concerned that they banded together to offer a $10,000 reward for his safe return.
And everybody had their theories about what happened to him. Some thought the bird had been kidnapped, and that somebody was holding him against his will. Others thought he simply passed away, as wild animals tend to do.
A few weeks after his disappearance, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» asked the mayor what he thought happened to Canuck the Crow, and if he thought the bird was still alive.
Mayor Stewart told us that he hoped the crow had “flown away to get a little break over the summer,” but it’s been three years since that summer and there's still no sign of Canuck.
On average crows live to be seven or eight years old in the wild, but some can live to be up to 20 years. If still alive, Canuck would be around seven years old now.
We may not have seen the last of this crow.
