BC Sugar Refinery

The original BC Sugar refinery (pictured) produced its first sugar in 1891. The brainchild of American Benjamin Tingley Rogers, the plan was to import raw sugar from Australia, Asia or Central America, and refine it for the growing western Canadian market. The plan worked: Rogers Sugar remains a popular brand, and the refinery a local industry.
