Prisoners聽at the BC Penitentiary in New Westminster rioted in 1963 after three inmates were detected trying to escape. The three took聽a guard hostage, and insisted on negotiating with popular radio host Jack Webster. Among their grievances was a demand not to be placed in 鈥渢he hole,鈥� the solitary confinement space that terrorized the prison population for decades.
