BC Electric Company

Vancouver’s first motorbus, painted the familiar dark green colour of the BC Electric Company, hauls a load of local dignitaries on its inaugural run in March 1923. The vehicle had a 30-horsepower engine, hand-cranked of course, hard rubber tires and candles in lieu of a defroster. In the thick fogs so common in the city in those days, off-duty drivers came in to act as fog pilots, standing in the doorway to warn their partner back onto the road or trotting ahead trailing a white handkerchief.
