Asahi Baseball Team

The Asahi Baseball Club, composed of Japanese Canadians, began playing at what is now Oppenheimer Park and became the most popular team in the Lower Mainland. Known as the best baseball team in the city, the Asahi won 10 city championships between 1919 and 1940 and won the Pacific Northwest Championship five years in a row.
