The Burnaby Blues + Roots Festival is returning to Deer Lake Park this year on Aug. 12.

Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival has announced its 2023 dates — and the big news this year is admission will be completely free.

On Saturday, Aug. 12, head to Deer Lake Park for a rollicking good time with fabulous blues and roots artists.

This year's admission will be free, according to a city press release.

Last year's admission prices ranged from $40 for early-bird tickets, to $50 for advanced tickets, to $60 for day-of-show tickets, while children aged 12 and under were free.

The lineup of artists and more event details will be released later this spring, though we know it'll include food trucks, a family zone and more.

Last year's festival hosted Grammy Award-winning headliner The War on Drugs, along with singer-songwriter Kathleen Edwards and Métis and Slovakian singer-songwriter Ruby Waters, among others.

The festival has hosted artists like Robert Cray, Colin James, Smokey Robinson, k.d. lang, Nathaniel Rateliff and Feist throughout its 22-year history.

“The is one of the most exciting events that we host in Burnaby,” said Mayor Mike Hurley in a press release.

“By removing ticket fees we’re ensuring that everyone in our community will have the chance to come down to Deer Lake Park and enjoy a fantastic day of music with friends and family.”
