If you travel the Sea to Sky Highway regularly, you might have noticed that a Furry Creek faux rock sign along the northbound lane was recently smashed.
What remained looked a bit like a mini-landslide.
The Squamish Chief wanted to get to the bottom of this mini-mystery, so turned for answers to the Ministry of Transportation (MOTI); the provincial body is responsible for B.C.'s highways.
A spokesperson for the ministry confirmed that the rock monument was recently hit by a vehicle.
Some signs along the highway are privately owned and maintained, but he said this one is taken care of by the ministry, and MOTI will replace it.
The ministry is in the process of confirming tentative timelines and processes with the contractor.
The spokesperson said it is anticipated to take several months before a new sign is up as it is custom-fabricated.
The debris from the destroyed sign has already been removed from the site.
Mystery solved.
Editor's note: Readers have reached out to say that the sign was hit by a dump truck, not a car, as originally stated by MOTI. Thus, we have changed the story to say "vehicle."
