A motorcyclist has died following a late-night crash in West Vancouver.

At around 11:23 p.m. Tuesday evening, three motorcycle riders were travelling westbound on the 5500 block of Marine Drive when the lead motorcyclist was involved in a single-vehicle incident, according to a statement from West Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»police.

First responders rushed to the scene, and the victim was assisted for around 45 minutes.

“Unfortunately, the rider could not be saved and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” police said.

The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service was called to the scene to assist with the investigation.

Early indications suggest that while a group of three motorcyclists were travelling together, that section of the road is curved, and the remaining two riders did not observe the crash, said Sgt. Chris Bigland, spokesperson for West Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department.

"They both remained on the scene," he said. "There were no immediate or obvious indications of impairment, but as the investigation is in the very early stage, we don't have any additional details to release at this time."

"Until notification of next of kin has been completed, we will not be releasing additional personal details about the victim," Bigland added.

WVPD extended its condolences to family and friends of the deceased.

“As this incident occurred late at night with no witnesses, we are asking anyone with relevant video footage or additional information to reach out to us at 604-925-7300 and quote file #24-10558,” Bigland said.

Marine Drive traffic was blocked in the area in the wake of the crash but reopened around 7 a.m. Wednesday.
