A B.C. nurse has been suspended for snooping in medical records.

A Vernon nurse has been suspended for six months for accessing the medical records of people with whom he had no professional connection.

A B.C. College of Nurses & Midwives inquiry panel found that Michael Wood had accessed medical files he did not need to access, had failed to document all client interactions, and had not worked scheduled hours.

Further, a second decision found Wood had been disrespectful towards colleagues and had failed to follow workplace mileage requirements.

The college said the incidents took place between January and October 2019.

In addition to the suspension, Wood has been given a public reprimand, is limited from being a sole registered nurse on duty for six months, cannot be in a supervisory role or teach students for 12 months, and must submit to practice supervision for three months.

Wood was also ordered to take remedial education on ethics, being in a respectful workplace, documentation, professional standards and confidentiality.
