Police officers had to rescue a group of swimmers on July 3, 2024.

A group of stranded swimmers was rescued on Harrison Lake by police who were doing a training exercise nearby.

On Wednesday, Agassiz RCMP officers were on the lake when they noticed a group of people in trouble.

The flotation devices the people were using were pushed away from them by wind.

Police officers used a throw line to tow the group to safety.

Sgt. Andy Lot is urging everyone to be safe while on the lake.

"Always wear a life jacket, stay within designated swimming areas, and keep an eye on changing weather conditions,” he says. "Let’s work together to ensure that everyone’s time on the water is both safe and fun.”

If you are on the water in a canoe, kayak, standup paddle board or inflatable tube, you must carry mandatory safety equipment with you.

list the mandatory items as a PDF (personal flotation device), a buoyant heaving line and a whistle.
