Police are investigating after discovering a meth lab in an Abbotsford residence — one where children were allegedly living in.
A drug trafficking investigation started at a house in the 2300-block Hemlock Street back in early August.
On Aug. 23, a search warrant was granted for the residence and police seized three kilograms of opioids and 7.4 kilograms of methamphetamine.
Members of the Integrated Emergency Response Team, the Integrated Police Dog Services and Abbotsford Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit were all part of the search.
Sgt. Paul Walker says no arrests have been made at this time.
"The investigation is in its early stages, with drug trafficking and production charges forthcoming,” he says. "What was most concerning at this location was that numerous children were living at this residence.”
RCMP’s Clandestine Lab Enforcement and Response Team was called to assist after officers discovered the meth lab.
Chief Const. Mike Serr says he is “very” proud of everyone involved in the investigation.
“This team effort highlights that we will never stop holding those accountable who produce, import, and are involved in trafficking the highly toxic drugs on our streets,” he says.
Wednesday (Aug. 31) marks International Overdose Awareness Day.
"We have witnessed many overdose deaths in our community. We must find ways to reduce illicit drug demand," Serr says.
