One man arrested after stand-off with police ERT at North Van home

One male victim was taken to hospital after early-morning assault with a weapon on Tayaka Place

One man has been arrested after an incident in a North Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»neighbourhood that led to a large presence of RCMP emergency response team members Friday morning.

North Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»RCMP received a report of an assault with a weapon around 4 a.m. inside a home in the 100 block of Takaya Place in North Vancouver, a residential cul-de-sac near Crown and Orwell streets.

The victim, a man, was safely removed from the home with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and taken to the hospital.

Other people who were in the home at the time of the incident were also safely removed from the residence, said Const. Mansoor Sahak of the North Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»RCMP.

The suspect then refused to come out of the house, leading local police to call in the emergency response team. Police blocked off the street and told the public to stay away.

The standoff ended around 11:15 a.m. when the male suspect gave himself up and was taken into custody.

The victim and the suspect are not related, Sahak said.

Police wouldn’t say what kind of weapon was involved in the incident. Officers were still searching the home on Friday afternoon.

The incident remains under investigation, said Sahak. Police will likely be recommending charges of assault with a weapon. Other charges may also be recommended.
