North Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»RCMP have confirmed a kayaker died while on the water in Deep Cove over the weekend.

The BC Ambulance Service alerted the RCMP to a sudden death around 5:45 p.m. Saturday, said Const. Mansoor Sahak, North Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»RCMP spokesperson.

A 70-year-old man and his son were in a two-person kayak that had flipped over.

“One of the persons in the kayak was in medical distress,” Sahak said, adding that the pair did try to bring the kayak right side up again. “They were brought to shore and, sadly, one of the kayakers did die.”

It falls now to the BC Coroners’ Service to continue the investigation into the cause of death.

The victim was 70 years old. Police are not releasing any other details.
