The man accused of second-degree murder in the May fatal stabbing of a woman in Vancouver’s Olympic Village had been ordered to stay away from her In June 2021.
Jian Wei Wang, 50, is charged with second-degree murder in the case of Jian Ying “Angela” Du's death.
Police were called to a disturbance at an Olympic Village apartment building on May 1.
They found Du suffering from fatal stab wounds. She died at the scene.
Wang was arrested at the scene. Police say the pair knew each other but did not specify the relationship.
Wang is also charged with assaulting Du on May 22, 2021.
June 21, 2021 bail conditions included an order Wang have no contact with Du.
Wang appeared before Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»provincial court Judge Kathryn Denhoff on July 12 on both charges. A Mandarin interpreter was present.
The case is adjourned until Aug. 23 so Wang can complete a psychiatric assessment.
A no-contact order for Du’s family remains in place.
“May I have contact with my mother?” Wang asked.
Denhoff agreed to the request.
Wang remains in custody.
