Hate motivation cited in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Chinese Cultural Centre damage

The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Chinese Cultural Centre lions have been vandalized multiple times.

Charges against a Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­man for spray painting Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Chinese Cultural Centre property is being alleged as motivated by hate, court documents say.

Cameron Desi Demarre is charged with mischief under $5,000 motivated by bias, prejudice or hate based on religion, race, colour or national or ethnic origin.

The May 31 court charge document alleged that, on April 8, Demarre used black spray paint to deface the face of a white stone lion at the entrance of the centre on East Pender.

Demarre is also facing two other mischief charges.

It’s alleged he committed mischief under $5,000 in damaging two cars in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­on Oct. 17, 2022.
