Coca-Cola workers striking in Richmond for fair contract

Workers have been on strike since July 13.

More than 400 Coca-Cola Canada Bottling workers have been on strike for the past two weeks to demand fair wages.

Dozens of workers were spotted wearing matching T-shirts and holding signs announcing the strike at the picket line outside Coke Canada’s Richmond manufacturing facility earlier this month.

The company also has a distribution facility in Richmond, as well as other hubs across B.C.

Sasa Say, a worker who also participated in a strike in 2017, told the Richmond News it’s “really hard” for workers to keep up with the cost of living in Metro Vancouver.

“The company… doesn’t want to pay us more, so that’s why we do all this, right?” he said.

Teamsters Local 213, the union representing Coke Canada workers, kicked off the strike on July 13.
