A Kamloops singer has cracked the Top 20 on this season of American Idol.
Cameron Whitcomb advanced on Sunday’s episode of the popular reality show — the first round where advancing was up to America’s vote and not the Idol judges.
On Sunday’s episode, the 18-year-old pipeline worker sang Back Sabbath’s “Changes” — a toned down performance compared to his over-the-top energetic signature style to this point on the show.
Whitcomb’s previous performances have been dominated by backflips and a jittery, anxious stage presence. He played it much more cool on Sunday’s episode, and the judges noticed.
“You are truly changing before our eyes,” Katy Perry said on the episode.
Whitcomb was among the last three contestants to advance on Sunday.
He won’t have to wait long to learn what comes next. American Idol is expected to whittle its group of finalists down to a Top 14 on Monday night’s episode.
The show airs on CityTV and ABC.
