B.C.’s College of Nurses and Midwives has suspended a Surrey nurse for two months after finding she improperly accessed patient records.

In a newly released Oct. 29 notice, the college said an inquiry panel approved an agreement between April Libiano and the college dealing with the unauthorized access between December 2021 and December 2022.

“Nurses are only permitted to access personal and health information for purposes that are consistent with their professional responsibilities and are not permitted to access the health records of patients that are not in their care,” the notice said.

The panel said Libiano agreed to discipline and limits on her practice.

Those include:

• suspension of her nursing registration for two months,

• a public reprimand; and,

• her taking a remedial education on ethics.

“The inquiry committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public,” the college said.
