A B.C. man charged with kidnapping, forcible confinement and making threats of death or bodily harm is set to go on trial in January but does not have a lawyer.
Wesley Michael Aubichon, 40, was charged with the offences in connection with Nov. 16, 2022 incidents in Vancouver. The charges were sworn six days later.
Aubichon appeared before 麻豆传媒映画Provincial Court Judge Joseph Galati Oct. 30 with the intention of confirming trial dates.
Galati, however, said he would put that off in order for Aubichon to work on getting a lawyer.
Aubichon told Galati he has been consumed with organizing funerals for family members but has been working on getting a lawyer.
“This should take precedence right now,” the judge told Aubichon. “You’re going to find yourself in difficulties more than you are right now.”
The trial is set for four days beginning Jan. 7, 2024.
Galati said if Aubichon continues to find himself without a lawyer, he may want to adjourn the trial.
Aubichon has had seven lawyers in the course of his 67 appearances on the charges. Twelve Crown prosecutors have been involved with the case.
The case returns to court Nov. 13 to confirm the trial dates.
